Will Depend on How We Educate Our Children

I’m a gun owner. And I believe strongly in protecting the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution, the amendment that gives me the right to own firearms. This right to keep and bear arms is central to the principle of self-government in our country. The framers of the Constitution agreed that the Federal Government should have no authority to disarm its citizens. The amendment was a protection against tyranny by a strong central government. It gave citizens the right to protect their homes and their families against dangers; even if those dangers came from the government itself.
Today, the meaning of the 2nd Amendment is hotly contested. We here in Shenandoah County are blessed to have as our representatives in Richmond and Washington, staunch supporters of our right keep and bear arms. Todd Gilbert has been a strong voice and true leader on 2A issues. But, unfortunately, not even Delegate Gilbert will be able to protect our 2nd Amendment rights, or any of our rights for that matter, if we don’t correct the misinformation that is being disseminated in public schools across this county.
Political indoctrination of children through our public school system has been on the rise for decades. Those who would take away your guns won’t come to your door and take them. They won’t send an army to your door and demand that you hand them over. No. They will slowly brainwash your children and grandchildren to turn over their arms willingly.
Constitutional principles and basic American history and civics must become a central theme of our public-school curriculum. If we don’t influence our children’s education someone else will They are already doing it. Our County Schools need the same level of community commitment and passion that that we all saw at the height of the 2A rallies. Our education system is our only hope to protect our way of life in the years to come. If you care, as I know you do, you must get involved with our fight to take back our County Schools.
