Delegate Todd Gilbert represents the very best of what it means to be from the Shenandoah Valley. A strong yet unassuming leader, Gilbert’s brand of leadership reflects the character of his constituents and never wavers in the face of some of the most polarized and divisive times in American history. He was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2005 and was elected Republican Leader in 2018; a post he has held through some of the most tumultuous periods in Virginia’s history. In 2022 he was elected Speaker of the House of Delegates.
During his time in office, Gilbert, has become a recognized force for the advancement of conservative ideals and a common sense approach to government – all while remaining accessible to his constituents at home with a ‘no issue is too small” approach.
Gilbert’s voting record shows a consistent pattern of support for conservative principles and initiatives. He is an outspoken defender of 2nd Amendment rights, supports policies directed at a strong business environment and job creation and shows a commonsense approach to government with less regulation and impactful spending As a former prosecutor, one of the issues that has been central to his time in office has been public safety. Without exception, he is tough on crime and a fierce advocate for law enforcement. Speaker Gilbert has met the controversy over the education of our children head-on and has worked to protect the rights of parents to make decisions about what their children are taught and how they are raised.
At the same time that he has stood by policies that promote energy independence, he has worked on bipartisan efforts to protect Virginia’s scenic beauty and natural resources. He was a part of a team of legislators that brought Seven Bends State Park to Woodstock, an effort that was years in the making. During the last legislative session, Gilbert was instrumental in securing nearly $5 million in funding to promote the history of the Shenandoah Valley and open its battlefields to the public showing his continued commitment to protecting Virginia’s unique and important history and promoting tourism and outdoor recreation.
Todd Gilbert is a Central High School graduate, a Mount Jackson resident, an active member of his church, and a devoted husband and father. He is one of us; and he has used his time and talents to serve his neighbors and his commonwealth with a type of principled conservatism that is reminiscent of the days of Ronald Reagan and should make us hopeful for our future.
